and now a Civilization One clone
For 35 years, I have been playing a game called "Civilization", which is a turn-based "4X" game, perhaps the first in the genre. Anyway, I've been playing under emulators for a long time, because we no longer have DOS.
While I was working on my recent raw image editor, I started thinking about finding some abandoned open-source repository on github and seeing what I could do with that. Well, this is what I did. With the help from some friendly strangers, and a lot of work by Claude.AI, I've made the version of the game I always wanted; the same old game, but with a much larger playing screen, native speed, and some rule tweaks and bug fixes. Here are some screen shots. I have no idea if it runs on Linux or Windows, but I've been playing on my Macbook. And I've been having a great time.

Needless to say, I'm bending the thing to a "cassette futurism" look, heading back to the early '90s. When I'm done this will look like a game that could have been played on the Nostromo. (If Wayland-Yutani allowed downtime.)

*4X means "Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate".
