a hike on a new years day
We went for a familiar hike today, doing the circuit that starts with a forestry road up into the hills, then follows the service road for a radio relay or broadcasting station, and then ends with a barely-maintained foot trail through bamboo and cedar forests. I don't even remember when I first did it, but I took The Boy when he was approaching twelve and needed The Talk. I would put it at around the fifth time for me. We saw a family of wild boars, with a big dad and medium mum, and two babies still in fawn-like coloration. As with everything in Japan, nature is slowly taking over, and the foot trail in particular was more treacherous than I've seen it in years past.
But I'm happy to say that Mari and The Girl came along this time. It took about 2 1/2 hours, in part because The Boy and I were sharing my camera. Which means we'll have pics to share .. real soon now.
Three good things that happened today:
- The ladies joined our hike
- We saw that wild boar family
- I believe I got some good pics indeed
Three reasons to be thankful:
- My knee held up, which I wasn't entirely sure about
- The weather was perfect
- No hangover because .. not drinking!
