photo of the day

and on the third day, stock android arose from the grave

Kokubunji, 2025.12.24

I managed to get the wallet app on my phone working, but not the contactless payment that I use to get on and off the train. So I attempted to leave GrapheneOS for LineageOS but that failed terribly to a "soft brick" state. So I found a handy WebUSB page that would allow me to reinstall stock Android and now I'm at least back to a working phone. Happily, it's much faster than it was before this mess, so at least there's that.

And while I may be stuck with a commercial/spyware OS on my phone, I am enjoying my return to Linux on the desktop. I spent some time today tinkering with the new backup procedure, which runs in about 5% of the time the "Windows Subsystem for Linux" managed on my Windows 11 setup. But it's still Linux: I haven't found a suitable photo editor and the mouse is too fast. It's always something, even after thirty plus years. I reckon I'll work it out.
