working through a migraine

Kokubunji, 2025.12.04

I ran off to the office today because there was a day-long management team "off-site". I had to take two doses of my migraine meds in the hour between waking and leaving, and honestly I was in no shape to be leaving the house. I checked in my backpack three times for the case for my glasses, even reaching in to touch around to be sure. The same for my "missing" gloves. Sometimes when it's bad, my brain doesn't register what I'm seeing. But on this occasion it also didn't register what I was touching, because mid-morning at the office when things were better I could indeed see and feel the items that were of course where they were supposed to be.

Of course, getting to the office was its own chore. I left without my smart phone, which meant I didn't have the RFID card in it that I'd need to enter the elevator area of the office building. I'd already paid (cash) to get into the station and then had to talk my way out, cycle home (with freezing hands) and start it all again.

Stupid chronic illness. This is the third time in ten days.

Three reasons to be thankful:

  1. I was well enough to eat lunch
  2. There was a gluten-free option among the bento that my colleagues had kindly ordered
  3. My team is replacing the awful iPhone SE handsets we've been using with newer iPhone 16E's. Yes, it may have been derided by at least one "phone Youtuber" as "dumber than a sack of Kardashians" but the display and keyboard are much improved
