Mercury, the water star
Kokubunji, 2025.11.06
Today's word in Japanese studies is:
水星
Strangely, the kanji mean 'water' and 'star' and when you put them together you get the planet Mercury. Did they expect to find water on Mercury? I suppose it's memorable in its contrary meaning. Some other recent vocabulary terms that have been thrown at me include 土星 'dirt star' for Saturn and 金星 'gold star' for Venus.
