join the car crash set (again)

Kokubunji, 2025.10.11

Today, for what the seventh time, I was in a car crash. My darling Mari was at the wheel, we were on our way to an art museum downtown, and taking the car because you're supposed to use it once in a while for longer runs. Certainly, getting to Ebisu was going to take a while.

We came to a stop at a busy intersection and unfortunately a two-tonne truck behind us did not manage to stop. We were very lucky that there were no kids in the back as they would have been lacerated by all the flying glass. As it is, I think a picnic blanket we kept in the back is possibly unusable for that reason, but I believe it is older than our son and it is a small thing in the grand scope of things.

The car is property of Toyota, as it's a "kinto" long-term rental. There are so many parties involved I don't actually know how to count them. There are either three or four insurance companies, for instance. I'm sure it will all take some time to unwind.

I was out the door almost immediately, camera in hand and taking photos of license plates and the other driver. But unlike the last time we went through this in Canada, no one attempted to run, the police were there quite quickly, and we were soon in the hospital getting x-rays scans. We're shaken up and sore but free of fractures as far as the doctors were concerned.

This is what we were listening to when the truck hit.
