aquarium incident

I came downstairs after a ~12 hour day as usual and noticed that the downstairs goldfish aquarium was looking a bit unfiltered. I opened the cabinet and noticed to my dismay that since (I hope) last weekend I'd had it running but the the valve off. So, idiot that I am, I just opened the valve. So now, despite changing half the water and cleaning out the filter, I reckon I have a dead filter biology and some disgusted goldfish. But the silly cows seem quite content.
I thought, "Rich told me a story like this fifteen years ago, I'm going to write to him."
