movie review - 24 Hours to Live

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Kokubunji, 2025.05.03

This turned out to be the kind of sci-fi/action flick you hope for: good enough to keep you watching, but largely free of over-the-top emotional indulgence or blockbuster CGI scenes that take you out of it. I enjoyed the story, the performances, and the settings. The story actually made a good deal of sense if you ignore the implausibility of one or two characters surviving as long as they do. The acting hits just the right degree of seriousness, it's like the director had morning drills for everyone on keeping just a bit of one's tongue in their cheek. The tone keeps the whole thing together, and the sci-fi is so very near future you tend to forget that that is what it is until the credits are about to role.

Recommended.
