twenty-eight years and a million words

Fukuoka, 2025.04.24

Today I had a genuinely interesting experience with AI. I wanted to write a project closure for a three-year program we've had on the go, and noticed that Sharepoint was proffering the option of having Copilot (and AI tool) assist. So I told it the subject of the page and clicked "go", expecting it to create a template. Instead, it wrote the entire project closure, including lessons learned and next steps. Really incredible.

The quality was about an 8/10, and I spent perhaps twenty minutes cleaning it up (and making a Japanese translation). I added only about 2-3 column inches at one point, and marveled that the thing had gone into the rest of the Sharepoint, my inbox, and my OneDrive to pull together all the details -- some of which was quite new.

I was actually impressed with an AI tool!

Then tonight I passed a busker on the street and he asked me what he should play. I told him, "Motörhead", and he assembled a very plausible rendition of Ace of Spades by first laying down the chords, then letting his software tool build up the bass and drums in support. Then he recorded two guitar tracks, one for the actual guitar and a second to simulate the late Lemmy's "voice". It was great.
