movie review - The Electric State
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-eight years and a million words
Yes, it's movie night with Netflix. Tonight we watched this bizarre lightweight sci-fi piece set in an alternate reality where sentient automatons control a sort of empty quarter in the American west. This is governed by a self-aware Mr. Peanut character and is otherwise populated by various purpose-built androids and robots and so on that mill about resenting humans and/or offering them haircuts.
The plot is a bit of a mess, the pacing is uneven, and the young lady who starred in "Stranger Things" is now too old to be playing a teenager. We saw it through but not all of us and not all in one sitting.
Not recommended.
