return to Woodend
The Boy and I took a walk to Woodend Conservation Area in Niagara Falls. It's one of my favorite spots in the area, amounting to a stretch of the Bruce Trail along the escarpment east of St. Catharines. It was pleasantly sunny and about thirty degrees, and The Boy spotted a snake. By which I mean he heard the rustling of leaves and when looking into it he found a small snake. He also spotted a large turkey vulture that seemed to have just emerged from a cave in the escarpment. We also saw some gorgeous butterflies.

As we were leaving, I heard the thin reedy cries of some eagles. Looking up, we saw two of the large birds. Given that there is a golf course immediately to the west, which may be dousing their property with pesticides as is common, I'm glad to see so much life.
