the journal of Michael Werneburg

I'm on the ground in Bucharest, Romania. For the first time in nearly twenty years, I'm in a new country. So far, I like it; it's hotter than I expected but I had a pleasant train trip in from the airport and then a nice walk to the hotel, which is near the giant parliamentary palace. The streets are alive with pedestrians and people in the parks and so on. The parking is terrible but the driving is fairly polite by Tokyo standards. There are several signs of harder times in the past but it has a vibrant feeling.
