movie review - Shaun of the Dead

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Kokubunji, 2024.10.19

I watched this with the kids on Netflix because it was on a "bucket list" poster of 100 movies that I bought The Boy for X'mas last year. I'd seen it when it first came out -- twenty years ago?? -- and had mostly pleasant memories about it but I have to say, on the latest viewing I was happily surprised to realize it was better than I'd remembered. The characters are true, the dialog is good, the plot, pacing, and tone are well maintained throughout. It does get a bit indulgent about the feelings of the main characters (who are adults but who mope about like teenagers), but overall I found it engaging and fun.

Strongly recommended.
