movie review - Yes Man

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Kokubunji, 2024.09.07

This is a movie about a down-trodden wretch who agrees to forego saying "no" to anything. He's a loans officer, so this is meant to result in wacky hijinks. But the tone is way off in parts, which some characters being distractingly crass and unpleasant and others being too sweet. I'm not sure what the movie was trying to say, but with the female lead being at least a decade too young for the male lead, and the detracting presence of the nasty supporting characters, I found the movie more off-putting than engaging.

Not recommended.

rand()m quote

On the endless saga of Rob Ford, mayor of Toronto; "It shouldn't have had to come to this. I'm so tired of getting up every morning and wondering, 'What will it be today?' I'm so tired of giving the benefit of the doubt again and again, only to be let down again and again.... Somewhere a responsible adult has to appear, draw a bright moral line, tell the truth and say unequivocally what won't be tolerated. Somebody has to do the right thing."
