why do I read Shakespeare

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Kokubunji, 2024.08.22

I've been doing a lot of writing, lately, largely on a novel I started in 1991 (yes, I'm one of those people). I've been pretty happy with it, especially in my ability to write actual characters now. Then I picked up The Tempest, by Shakespeare, and now I reckon everything I've ever written has to be burned. Who do I read Shakespeare!

rand()m quote

Selfish leaders increase risk by placing themselves first. It's a fundamental mistake to assume that what is good for us personally is mutually exclusive to what is good for everyone. That kind of zero-sum game is for cowards, and in the end, we all pay the price for this type of latent, toxic leadership.
