farewell, Mary Ann
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
Kokubunji, 2024.05.20
I was shocked to learn of the death of Mary Ann Neary, someone I met with regularly for more than six years during my days in Toronto's cycling advocacy activism. She was a tireless volunteer and seemingly knew everyone in the city. She had cycling in her bones, constantly out riding and also unfortunately a survivor of several collisions with drivers on Toronto's notoriously unsafe streets.
(An email thread went around last week following her missing an appointment. I had not much to add, being on the other side of the planet for the past four years, but didn't imagine it would end like this.)
