movie review - Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
This is the latest in the literally never-ending series of action movies about a fictional quasi-governmental spy agency that cleans up after the Pentagon. I had high hopes because the previous installation - the sixth in the series - was excellent.
I'm sorry to say that the magic does not repeat, and it's not close. The story is not as strong, the chemistry between the actors is much reduced, and I frankly found myself mystified that this could be such a strong step back. And by that I want to clarify that after liking the previous installment so much I watched the original and found it to be exactly what I'd suspected from the ads way back when: a chaotic and off-putting mess.
I sat through it but found myself comparing it to a Netflix miniseries starring Schwarzenegger that had a lot of the same feel. But that was a made-for-TV miniseries and not a major theatrical release.
Not recommended.
