movie review - Night at the Museum

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tonight we watched this kids' movie about a down-on-his-luck divorced father taking a night job so that he can remain a part of his son's life. The job is to be night watchman at a museum. On his first night, he experiences the magical coming to life of the various animals and figures in the museum. He loses his instructions, he loses his keys, and wonders if he is losing his mind.

We enjoyed it. It's well paced, well acted, has a light tone and good humor.

Recommended.

Illusions commend themselves to us because they save us pain and allow us to enjoy pleasure instead. We must therefore accept it without complaint when they sometimes collide with a bit of reality against which they are dashed to pieces.
