Part of Mari's name in Japanese is the kanji 真 for "true". Because it's also in The Girl's name, which I have tattooed in a soccer-mom tat, I have that ji in ink. Anyway, the word for "photo" is 写真. The first kanji in that word is "copy". So a photos is "true copy" or possibly "copy of the truth".
