movie review - Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

This is an animated movie from the lunatics at Aardman. Though I suspect these spin-off movies are done with software rather than plasticine, they have much of the same bonkers charm. In this case, the heroes are a living in a quiet chicken village but one of them, a teenage girl chicken y'see, wants more. So she sneaks out and the next thing you know an agribusiness has its filthy mitts on the entire village.

I enjoyed the comedy, the animation style, the engaging characters, and the classic "regular people fight back" shtick. The plot takes us in a few unexpected directions and we find ourselves in something bordering corporate drama before it's resolved.

This movie is a step above a lot of the stuff I find myself watching for "movie night".

Recommended.

I believe you find life such a problem because you think there are good people and bad people. You're wrong, of course. There are, always and only, the bad people, but some of them are on opposite sides.
