twenty-seven years and one million words
I arrived in BC this afternoon. The place is hazy with the widespread smoke of fires from the northern parts of the province. So far this year, more than 8.8 million hectares of forested land (and several inhabited areas) have gone up in flames. By comparison, the Netherlands is only 4.1 million hectares.
Anyway, the high was 25ºC (fully 9º cooler than the daily high I'd already enjoyed in Tokyo) and lightly breezy. Everything went well transferring from the international commercial flight to the local float-plane trip, and the second flight was itself immensely enjoyable. I saw the drainage patterns in the post-shore saltwater marshes, I saw the textured waves on the sea, I saw the sailboats and the solitary houses. What a place!
