movie review - Puss in Boots The Last Wish
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
For movie night, we watched this sequel to the "Puss in Boots" spinoff of "Shrek 2", which came out way back in 2004. I was reluctant, because those other movies weren't very good, but I was happy to be proven wrong. This was an actually good movie with a significant plot, great characters, two superb villains, and some genuinely great movie-making. Without giving away anything, there was a point when the titular character is seen trekking through (a Spanish kingdom in the Shrek universe), a cut-out in the scenery around him has the shape of his (also titular) boots. I'm describing it poorly but it was magnificent.
I'm sure that a "Pitch Meeting" or "Everything Wrong With" or "Honest Trailer" clip will tear it to shreds but we quite enjoyed this one. Mercifully, you need not have seen the prior, lessor, movies to enjoy this.
Strongly recommended.
