why are so many movies not great

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Kokubunji, 2023.10.13

I watch a fair number of movies, and I have definitely noticed a long degradation in quality and some really mystifying incidents where the CGI was clearly worse than it was twenty years ago. At the same time, I was aware of the strike in Hollywood but didn't know its causes. Then I happened on this video on Youtube. And now I know why these two things are happening and how they are related.

Damn that late-stage capitalism.

rand()m quote

It has always seemed strange to me...The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling, are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest, are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second.
