trouble under a red moon
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
I left work early tonight (just past 17:00!) to get home in time to take the kids out to see the eclipse.
I had quite an experience getting home. My cycle commute is 12.5km each way. About 200m from home I felt a bit of give in my power train which was quite a shock on a month-old chain and cassette. Fifty meters from home the chain jammed briefly which again was quite a surprise because I'd not left any slack when installing it. A few pedals later the derailleur snapped off the bike. On reflection I believe it was about sixteen or seventeen years old - never mind that it spent nine of those years lashed to the ceiling of Mari's parents' place.
Anyway, the kids and I spent almost two hours watching the eclipse drag on. Couldn't get a proper exposure on any of three cameras but we had a good time.
