movie review - Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
This was a "movie night" movie and despite myself I found it growing on me. I didn't care for the confusing mess that the related "Harry Potter" movies became, nor do I want to hear more about the author's bizarre politics or the castles she owns as a result of the media empire she founded on a stolen premise. But it's none of that that had me reluctant. It was the way the movie was marketed as feature a hopeless, naive shmuck of a lead in an indulgent romp.
Instead we have a tale with relatively grounded characters and a coherent story. There's WAY too much CGI at times, but generally speaking it works.
Recommended.
