movie review - Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

This is a Marvel super-hero movie with enough of a re-skin that it is more watchable than many. At least, initially. It starts off with more of an action/kung-fu vibe, then develops a plot in which our hero is revealed to be the son of The Mandarin, a classic villain from the Marvel universe of which this is a part. This develops to a certain extent but the whole thing breaks down into the usual CGI orgy by the end, replete with villains with matching strengths/weaponry. I feel there was a missed opportunity here to do something different.

Cheers to the lead actor for making the giant leap from Canadian sit-com in a single action.

Not recommended.
