well I've never been to Ome

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Kokubunji, 2021.06.28

Today I cycled up to a town called Ome in Tokyo's far north-west. I guess it's really the end of the city. It's about 25 kilometers away, which means it's as distant from us as my office. Since we've been on the low carb diet, I've noticed that my body feels stronger but I get headaches much more readily. So it was today, I had to stop and buy a cola because I didn't bring any meds. Also, Ome's not the kind of place with a lot of drug stores or other amenities. Anyway, the mighty Tama river has its origins in the area, and I finally found my way to the water after twenty minutes of going up and down hills and splashed around for a while. It was a nice change of pace. I'm taking three days off work before my head collapses from stress.

It's amazing how my body feels much better without carbs. This kind of thing really highlights the difference. I never had a moment when I felt low on energy, and on the way back just stopped for a packet of nuts. I did, however, get a pretty bad headache which incredibly I was able to address it with a Pepsi.
