movie review - Thunder Force

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Kokubunji, 2021.05.14

I have a feeling that this movie came together due to someone owing someone a favor because I don't think it was built on an idea per se - or at least not a solid one. It's a super-hero story of sorts in which a loser barfly blunders into an old friend's life after 25 years and accidentally helps herself to a dose of magic formula that's the product of the friend's life's work. The whole thing is intensely stupid but the attempts by the two friends to involve themselves in crime-fighting only makes it more awkward. I like Melissa MacCarthy and generally like her humor but I wound up skipping through the back half of this thing.

Not recommended.
