prepping for a big one

twenty-seven years and one million words
We had another earthquake on Sunday. We've been building our stock of gear and provisions in preparation for a large quake. Today we received some more deliveries. I'd bought 24 d-cell batteries for a lamp from Coleman that has detachable portable panels. The base itself has four bright LED strips as well. Mari's delivery was a new backpack suitable for taking to work. The old one - which she had when I met her - will now serve as her "go bag". Mine's already packed by the door, and has things like thin foil thermal blankets, our hand-powered/solar radio, a very lightweight tent suitable for the kids, one of our first-aid kits (we have two due to a thank-you gift from the Red Cross for years of donations), a knife, hand sanitizer, and a water purification bottle I bought several years ago. Mari says we have matches somewhere as well, and I have to track down a bunch of other bits and pieces.
We have some single-pane, un-reinforced glass windows that worry me, but I think in case they're smashed we might have to move to a hotel anyway.
