movie review - Sweet Girl

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Kokubunji, 2021.08.28

This is a story about a man and daughter who lose their wife/mother and the father can't shake that his wife was allowed to die due to some mix of medical and pharmacological incompetence and/or conspiracy. I found myself rooting for the film, which is not that unusual if it can hold to its premises and maintain an engaging tone. Which this does. The writing's not always consistent, there are some uneven patches in the direction, but I enjoyed it.

Recommended.

The way you write science fiction is: you sit down at your writing machine and you open your mind to the first thought that comes through. My first thought was always a cigarette.
