movie review - We Can Be Heroes

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Kokubunji, 2020.12.26

Of late, Robert Rodriguez has been making kids movies. Kids spy movies were first, now it seems to be super-hero movies. He seems to be going for a certain low-budget look despite hiring some decent actors, and the combination somewhat works. The plot of this one is a passing-the-torch thing that really struggles. The dialog quality is all over the place, the kids' acting is also very varied (hats off for using kids in the first place, I suppose) and the plot felt like too much of it was developed as they went.

I won't belabor this. Not recommended.

rand()m quote

Remove everything that has no relevance to the story. If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it's not going to be fired, it shouldn't be hanging there.
