to the dentist!

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2020.08.23

All of us went to the dentist this week. It was my first time in 4+ years, I suspect. No cavities, and the wonky pre-cast one-piece filling I was worried about, which is now ten years old, is in good shape. The dentist expressed some surprised that my teeth were in such good shape. It only took a few decades but it seems I've learned to take adequate care of my teeth in the absence of dentist's visits.

One interesting thing that the docs recommended was a type of toothbrush with a "fail safe" of sorts. It has a plastic pin in the handle that slips out of position if you're brushing too hard. It's amazing how low the bar is for "too hard"! I'm learning to brush much more gently.

The total bill, including an x-ray of that old two-tooth filling was Y2700 or so, maybe $CA40. How nice to have dental coverage again.
