the school tour

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Tokyo, 2020.08.07

Mari and The Boy went to the school today for a tour. Apparently The Boy's mid-year appearance is causing a bit of a buzz among his classmates. By the time they got to the school, the classmates had left but they got to meet The Boy's home room teachers. Apparently The Boy did better on the math test than the current students. The English teacher said something worrying: because The Boy's English was "advanced" he didn't think he'd have to assign The Boy anything. I asked Mari that she speak to the fellow about maybe assigning some literature reading. We're paying twice what my master's degree cost for this year's tuition, I do hope there will be instruction!

And speaking of tuition, it turns out that the top students in each year's class can earn a scholarship for the following year's tuition. Maybe after his Japanese has caught up he can be in the running. 8)

I regretted that I'd been unable to attend the tour. I'd hoped that we'd be able to do that when the three of us visited for The Boy's exams and interview. Instead I attended some fourteen meetings through endless video conferences. At least for a time The Girl was around, building the lego set we got her last week.

rand()m quote

A lot of people lose the spirit of childhood. Every child has a lot of imagination and you lose it little by little. I don't know why, but I kept it.
