our angel fish laid eggs

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Kawasaki, 2020.04.18

Ken sent me a text early on Sunday morning (their time). The angel fish in our aquarium had laid eggs! He said she was hanging around the broad leaf where they appeared, and sent me a grainy cell phone pic. I determined with a bit of Googling that they were in fact angel fish eggs and not from the other species in the aquarium, which have very different styles of eggs and egg laying.

This is the first time in all these years that I've had an angel fish lay eggs.

Ken was disappointed that they wouldn't hatch. I reminded him of "the talk" we had in January and that a dad was needed for the eggs to be fertilized. He said he wanted to run out and get a boy fish. I reminded him that we were planning on leaving sooner or later.
