smuggling out e-waste

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2019.12.04

An interesting article in The Verge about how greed drove a "recycling" company to falsify documents in order to conceal that monitors containing mercury were being sent to Hong Kong for dismantling. The leaders of the firm did serious time for the fraud they committed, but the damage is done to the ecology (and to the Chinese workers dismantling the monitors with no knowledge of the mercury or any protective gear).
