movie review - Early Man

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2019.06.11

Some kids' movies are good enough to grab the whole audience and keep them engrossed. Fantastic Mister Fox. Paddington. Wallace and Gromit.

Then there are those that are at least worth a chuckle, like Despicable Me.

And then, just above the ones you stop watching because you'd rather be doing your taxes, are things like Early Man, which will simply fade from your memory immediately like reading about something that had you pissed off twenty years ago. This sad outing, like Wallace and Gromit, is from Aardman. Unfortunately, it's far less intelligent and interesting. I don't know how, but they turn the animated characters into stiff and awkward dullards and I find myself half-cheering for the bad guys at the end because at least they have a hint of charisma.

Not recommended.

rand()m quote

Selfish leaders increase risk by placing themselves first. It's a fundamental mistake to assume that what is good for us personally is mutually exclusive to what is good for everyone. That kind of zero-sum game is for cowards, and in the end, we all pay the price for this type of latent, toxic leadership.
