replaced the shifters on my bike

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2018.09.07

Today I took some time out from my job search and non-profit commitments to change the gear shifters on my bike. The old shifters were falling apart and had not functioned in weeks. With a 55km+ ride coming up I thought it best that I spend the money and time now. Replacing shifters involves replacing the cables that connect them to the derailleurs, and that involves cutting and fitting the cable sleeves and installing everything.

My membership in Cycle Toronto saved me %15 on the equipment (about $16), and the course I took on bicycle repair saved me $30 +tax on the installation, which would not have been available for a couple of more days. Huzzah!

rand()m quote

It has always seemed strange to me...The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling, are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest, are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second.
