yonder coming Putin

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2018.08.27

I wrote a folk song based on "The Midnight Special" about today's political events in the US.

Well, you wake up in the mornin', you hear the tweeting begin,

And when you get to the office, you see the same old thing:

Ain't no clue in the cabinet, and no dignity at all.

But you better not complain, boy, you get in trouble with the man.

Let the Special Counsel shine a light on me,

Let the Special Counsel shine a light on me,

Let the Special Counsel shine a light on me,

Let the Special Counsel shine a ever lovin' light on me.

Yonder comin' Putin, how in the world did you know?

By the way he smirks and glowers, and the people bow.

Election in his pocket, video tape in his hand;

He come to the White House, he wants to see his man.

Let the Special Counsel shine a light on me,

Let the Special Counsel shine a light on me,

Let the Special Counsel shine a light on me,

Let the Special Counsel shine a ever lovin' light on me.

If you're coming to America, you better do the right;

You better love Jesus, and you better be white, y'all

Or I.C.E. will grab ya, and take your kids far away.

And if you ever see them, they won't be the same.

Let the Special Counsel shine a light on me,

Let the Special Counsel shine a light on me,

Let the Special Counsel shine a light on me,

Let the Special Counsel shine a ever lovin' light on me.

Let the Special Counsel shine a light on me,

Let the Special Counsel shine a light on me,

Let the Special Counsel shine a light on me,

Let the Special Counsel shine a ever lovin' light on me.

(Thanks to my mum for the "people bow" bit!)
