movie review - Black Panther

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2018.07.25

The four of us went to see this hugely popular super-hero flick and I have to say I am close to the end of my tolerance for these things. This movie is beautifully made, and some of the actors turn in great performances. But it boils down to an extended - and I mean extended - fist-fight. There are so many weird plot/story problems, including the "giving up the powers" and the destruction of the magic blossoms or whatever. And the antagonist feels so mishandled that I found myself growing annoyed. I've said this before about who knows how many movies, but I really don't see what all the fuss is about.

Not recommended.
