movie review - Moana
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
This is the story of a girl who sets out to save her tiny Polynesian island, which is dying from creeping black plague that infects the food and eventually can be seen in the air. Believing that a hero caused them to be doomed if they leave their island, this particular island nation of Polynesians has abruptly done a 180ยบ on their history of millennia and refuse to sail. The heroine ain't buying though, and sets out to find the demi-god. Whether it's defeating the monstrous source of their problems or learning to overcome their fear and heading back to the seas, it's all up to one plucky girl with a magical connection to the sea and a grandmother .. is a ghost or something.
The animation is superb, the action is excellent, the plot moves nicely without anything near the glaring problems of "Frozen" or "Cars".
Oh; it's a musical, so .. yeah.
Recommended. For "movie night" with the kids.
