Recently, there was some debate on the meaning of 'jaywalking' - a term invented by the auto industry and friends. I'd heard the story before but it's always nice to have some links.

Why does it matter? Because four pedestrians were killed in a single day in Scarborough, a district of Toronto that features 50's style streets - long stretches of open road with many lanes and few places for pedestrians. The blaming of "jaywalkers" follows such deaths like the NRA follows mass shootings.
