movie review - Sing

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2017.04.24

I wonder if any good movie ever had the word "Sing" in the title. This one has that word and isn't good. It's an animated flick about a guy who wants to save his old theater by hosting a singing competition. My five year old ate it up but I found the whole thing annoying. The "heroes" are typified by Seth MacFarlane's mouse character: they're not compelling. Also, the song selection feels stilted, like it was all chosen according to which major label publishes it.

Not recommended.

rand()m quote

Selfish leaders increase risk by placing themselves first. It's a fundamental mistake to assume that what is good for us personally is mutually exclusive to what is good for everyone. That kind of zero-sum game is for cowards, and in the end, we all pay the price for this type of latent, toxic leadership.
