movie review - Kubo and The Two Strings

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2016.11.13

This is a lovingly-made animated story about a boy who sets a monstrous spirit loose on the world and must walk the path of his ancestors in order to set things right. It's stop-motion and looks so good you wonder what on Earth everyone else is up to. The voice-acting cast is excellent. The plot and pacing is superb, and the whole thing is far smarter than I would have imagined.

If you must sit in front of a kids movie, let it be of this caliber. You can easily dispense with the kids and take it all in yourself. I cannot overstate how well made this is, at times the animation will be breathtaking.

A favorite. Strongly recommended.

You have to choose between trusting to the natural stability of gold and the natural stability of the honesty and intelligence of the members of the Government. And, with due respect for these gentlemen, I advise you, as long as the Capitalist system lasts, to vote for gold.
