movie review - Nightcrawler

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2016.07.03

This is a movie about a thief and con-man who pushes into the TV cameraman line of work after witnessing a crew in action. He'll stop at nothing for the footage he wants, sabotaging his competition, interfering with crime scenes, etc. It's a relentless movie but I found myself repulsed by the character and - for that matter - the field. I mean at one point he lets one of his employees die. There's no real character development in this, no realization, no change. There doesn't necessarily have to be any of those things with every movie but it's too much to sit through the grind with no hope in sight.

Not recommended.

I believe you find life such a problem because you think there are good people and bad people. You're wrong, of course. There are, always and only, the bad people, but some of them are on opposite sides.
