running for a board position

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2016.02.21

I've applied to be considered for the board of Cycle Toronto. I'll be expected to campaign this time, unlike my first board role which was effectively an appointment.

I applied because:

a) They posted a job description, and I matched it very well (though not perfectly).

b) The challenges they face include making the transition from a "working board" to a governance board. I have experience with the former, but also with designing and implementing the management & governance functions.

c) I'd like to help; Cycle Toronto is an effective organization but faces a nearly limitless challenge in its mission of bringing safe cycling infrastructure to the city.

rand()m quote

Some people talk about living every day like it might be their last. Maybe that's good advice. Carpe diem and all that. But perhaps it's better to try to live every day like it might be everyone's last. If there are people in your life who are important to you, let them know...
