silent attack of the balloons

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2016.04.11

A friend came by with some helium balloons, which The Girl promptly took to her bedroom. They were all over the ceiling above her bed when we put her down for the night.

In the early hours, she woke up wailing because the balloons had all fallen onto her, and she was tangled up in their nylon strings.

Honey, we're laughing with you, not at you.

Illusions commend themselves to us because they save us pain and allow us to enjoy pleasure instead. We must therefore accept it without complaint when they sometimes collide with a bit of reality against which they are dashed to pieces.
