fishing in a river

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-seven years and one million words

Toronto, 2015.10.18

For the first time in decades, I fished in a river. It was the Rouge, we stayed in the estuary because the river proper was closed due to the salmon having spawned. It was a beautiful day for catching nothing. Ken found a lure that'll be a nice addition once I've prized off the rusted treble hooks.

My grandfather once told me that there are two kinds of people: those who work and those who take the credit. He told me to try to be in the first group; there was less competition there.
