refreshed website look
the journal of Michael Werneburg
twenty-seven years and one million words
I've retooled the site again, reducing the load time from 3½s to ½s. To do this, I've a) stopped tracking traffic, b) removed the floating thing on the left that allowed people to share on twitter or stumbleupon or facebook, c) removed the Google font I was using for headlines, and d) replaced bloated ol' "Bootstrap" with a svelte new model called "Pure" from Yahoo. In the process, I've reclaimed a fair bit of real estate at the top of the screen, especially for the photo collections.
All of this was necessitated by one of Bootstrap's sudden failures to work. The top navigation menu just wasn't working, and not for the first time. Goodbye, you unworkable heap!
