movie review - Sideways

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2015.01.14

I saw this a second time, recently, and felt that some of its shine had worn off. Both characters are a little too fully fleshed out; one feels neurotic and the other feels like a selfish prick. I don't know if the author(s) were going for an ego/id thing here or what, but the story's grounded in the realities of two people and one is a bit too retched (stealing cash from his mother to afford the trip) while the other is too blithe in his womanizing.

Recommended. But no longer "Strongly".

rand()m quote

I believe you find life such a problem because you think there are good people and bad people. You're wrong, of course. There are, always and only, the bad people, but some of them are on opposite sides.

—Terry Pratchett (as Lord Vetinari)
