meeting in a discrete place

the journal of Michael Werneburg

twenty-eight years and a million words

Toronto, 2015.05.05

I met a friend for drinks tonight at the pub under the Strathcona Hotel. It's a bit of a perfunctory setting, as if the hotel decided they needed a pub, but didn't have a suitable place to build one. Windowless, unadorned, and furnished with a hodge-podge of styles, it did however stand out in two ways:

1. The food was good and came quickly.

2. The service overall was quite good.

Still, it felt like a reasonable place to plan treachery.

rand()m quote

Immature poets imitate mature poets steal bad poets deface what they take and good poets make it into something better or at least something different. The good poet welds his theft into a whole of feeling which is unique utterly different than that from which it is torn the bad poet throws it into something which has no cohesion. A good poet will usually borrow from authors remote in time or alien in language or diverse in interest.
